. The state of Illinois offers a no fault worker's compensation program with benefits, which is paid by employers to their workers when there is an accident or disease, which injures an employee. Illinois has an organization called The Commission, which operates the state court system for employees comp cases. The Commission operates the state court system for these cases. Each workers comp case is first tried by an arbitrator and the decision may be reviewed by a panel of three commissioners. The staff of the Commission will explain the procedures and the status of the case but they will not answer specific questions about the case. On January 1, 2005, the Industrial Commission became the Illinois worker's Compensation Commission. The services have not changed, just their name.

also offers disability to individuals who become disabled and they are working or getting some disabled people back into the workforce. This new program they have formed is called Health Benefits for Workers with Disabilities. (HBWD). This organization began providing benefits in January, 2002. Sometimes an individual may be afraid to return to work because they will lose their medical benefits and they can not afford to get a plan from private insurance companies. The plans for this organization is to help the individual get back to work and to also be able to keep their Medicaid health care benefits. If you live in Illinois and are between the ages of 16 to 64 and you have a disability and are working, you may qualify for this aid. Workers with countable income of up to $1,702 for a single person, and $2,282 for a couple, may qualify for the benefits. Contact them, it doesn't cost anything to call or email them. HBWD allows enrollees to have up to $10,000 in assets to be eligible for compensation.

The school based health services in Illinois provide coverage for audiology, developmental assessments, medical equipment, medical services, medical supplies, nursing services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychological services, school health aide, social work, speech/language pathology, and transportation. They feel that these services are needed for children with disabilities.

Illinois has disability codes for businesses to make their place of business accessible for the disabled. The list of things which the code includes is parking, walks and sidewalks, curb ramps, pedestrian ramps, entrances, doors and doorways, hallways and aisles, passenger elevators, restrooms, water fountains, public telephones, controls, light switches and alarms, signs and identifications, warning signs and hazards, seating, tables, and work surfaces, and other requirements.
